Associate Director, Marketing (Based in Tokyo)

We are seeking a Associate Director, Marketing to lead the planning and execution of integrated digital advertising campaigns across Japan events, training programs, membership, and other offerings. This role manages a team and is accountable for delivering creative, data-driven marketing and communications strategies across both online and offline channels.

The Associate Director will oversee the development and execution of content-led marketing and digital advertising campaigns that drive engagement and financial performance for Japan-region conferences and courses. This individual is responsible for end-to-end campaign planning, implementation, and performance oversight to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Marketing Strategy & Campaign Leadership

  • Lead the strategy and execution of communications and promotional activities for all Japan products, including the Japan Annual Meeting, specialty meetings, training, webinars, membership, and other offerings in coordination with regional marketing team members.
  • Develop and execute successful strategic marketing campaigns for the Japan region that utilize both proven and emerging methods, channels, and partners to position the organization as a leader in the marketplace and promote the product portfolio.
  • Establish strong marketing and communications goals focused on brand awareness, lead generation, contact nurturing, and revenue performance for the Japan portfolio.
  • Provide input into the Japan content strategy based on customer insights, competitive landscape, and market knowledge.

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and develop a marketing team, leveraging new methods, channels, and partnerships to strengthen market positioning.
  • Collaborate within the team and with regional marketing leads to ensure portfolio cross-promotion, consistent brand messaging, and alignment with global campaigns and initiatives.
  • Engage with project managers and the regional Managing Director to align on priorities and execution.
  • Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Digital Marketing, Media & Campaign Execution

  • Responsible for audience definition and acquisition strategies for the entire Japan portfolio.
  • Engage members, customers, and prospects through social media channels.
  • Develop paid and organic programming to amplify campaign messaging and reach new audiences across social platforms.
  • Develop and execute the annual media buying plan in support of the region.
  • Execute integrated digital advertising campaigns across events, training, membership, and other offerings.
  • Responsible for gamification and e-catalog strategy, ideation, and task delegation.
  • Lead conference booth concept development and execution in partnership with project managers.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Own and manage the regional marketing budget, including allocation and tracking of spend across the portfolio
  • Partner with project managers and regional leadership to align budget planning with business objectives

Analytics & Performance Optimization

  • Analyze marketing performance and campaign effectiveness to inform optimization and future planning
  • Ensure consistent use of analytics tools and tracking systems (e.g., Google Analytics, UTMs, email tracking, PR metrics)
  • Translate data insights into actionable marketing improvements
  • Research and analyze market, competitive, and demographic trends to identify growth opportunities
  • Use insights to strengthen positioning and inform marketing strategy

To join us you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field
  • 8+ years of marketing experience, including hands-on digital campaign execution (B2B preferred)
  • Strong experience across digital marketing channels, including email, content marketing, display, and lead generation
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and multi-channel campaigns
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a sharp attention to detail
  • Fluency in Japanese and English (required)
  • Experience with social media management, analytics, and reporting tools
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and digital marketing tools (e.g., Google Ads)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and HTML is a plus
  • Experience with AMS platforms (e.g., Personify) is a plus
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
